Soap with rosemary honey and lavander essence

The Project

The Clarisas Sisters of the Convent of San Cristo de Balaguer have presented a handmade soap with honey, which becomes a natural alternative to the hydroalcoholic gel. The soap, with the name “Soup from heaven, soap of honey” (in Catalan “Sabó del cel, sabó de mel”). With the slogan ‘a soap as God commands’, it is made only with honey and glycerin soap and lavender essence from the Lleida-based company Aromes de Can Rosselló and honors the monastic tradition of soap making.

The soap, which was made during the confinement, was an economic outlet for the Clarisas Sisters who have seen a reduction in income from the convent’s store as a result of the closure caused by the pandemic. The product is handmade by the nine nuns living in the convent, who combine this totally manual task with contemplative life.

This initiative is in line with one of the essential values of Torrons i Mel Alemany: the commitment to humanizing production processes, as opposed to the automation that the brand promotes with the slogan ‘People, not robots’.

Mel Alemany 1979 is the most awarded company in Spain at the Great Taste, an award considered the Oscar of the delicatessen food world.

In the town of Os de Balaguer (La Noguera), under the gaze of the Montsec and its exceptional sky, Torrons i Mel Alemany has built a universe of sweets. For five generations, the Alemany family has been making handmade nougat and selecting honey from the best beekeepers. One of their mottos is “Honey from the best flowers, honey from the best beekeepers”.
